Energy Efficient Windows for a Better Environment

Diamond Windows & Doors MFG Inc. tries its best to reduce its carbon footprint. By using our windows, you will be doing the same. All our windows fall under the guidelines for the Energy Star program*. The Energy Star program sets the bar for energy efficient products and is the leader in energy saving awareness for consumer appliances and products. Using Energy Star products within the home leads to increased energy savings, which not only translates into money saved by the consumer, but also a lower environmental impact. By using our energy efficient windows, you will be lessening your dependence on fossil fuels to heat your home.

The U.S. Green Building Council has also determined that vinyl windows can be used in LEED-certified projects. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings.

Due to the rigors of the construction trade, it is necessary to use virgin vinyl in our window lines in order to provide the best performing window possible. By using virgin vinyl, not only does the window provide better structural integrity and color fastness over windows using recycled vinyl, but the window should also last longer, lessening the eventual waste accumulated. The excess wasted vinyl from the manufacturing process all gets saved and recycled to be used in fabricating such products as garden hoses, pipes, sound-deadening panels for automobiles and other products. As a result of this post-industrial recycling, about 99 percent of all vinyl ends up in finished products (according to the Vinyl Institute).

Aluminum windows are just as kind to the environment as vinyl. The highly sustainable nature of aluminum as a material can keep our product in use much longer than windows made out of any other building material. According to most sources, at least 2/3 of all the aluminum ever produced is still in use today making it the champion of environmentally friendly building materials. We aid in that effort not only with the longevity of our windows, but also by collecting and recycling all the waste from our aluminum products.

Please Note:
* The guidelines refer to those set for the Northern (including all of New England) and Central zones as set by the Energy Star program. Additionally, the option of using clear glass in our windows excludes the window from falling under the Energy Star program.
